Supposedly he accompanied Hynek at NBC's expense to interview Hickson and Parker. Blum said he was working with NBC producer Fred Friendly with the aim of producing an NBC Whitepaper. Unfortunately after about a week NBC pulled out of the project. Friendly supposedly told him that after the 'Saturday Night Massacre' of October 20th NBC had other priorities. Then several months later when Friendly told Blum that he was going to recommend to NBC that the project be revived he died of a heart attack. Around the same time he had been contacted about writing a book on the subject so he ended up using the research that he had originally done for the documentary in producing his book.
